Is Your Child Struggling to Read Fluently? (Get 1 week free!)

Learning to read is a significant milestone in a child’s life.

But teaching a child to read fluently is not an easy task for any parent.

There are so many phonic resources available and they are helpful and necessary but let’s be real honest with ourselves, the English language is 80% memorization. Yes, teaching phonics and making sure your child has the basic understanding of letter sounds and knowing how to blend those sounds is absolutely important! However, the real key to building that reading fluency is consistent exposure to all the words. The more you read the words and write the words, the better you become at reading and your brain just naturally begins to memorize it all.

When we focus on phonics alone, it can really confuse a child because a lot of words don’t follow standard phonetic rules. My youngest was in tears every time I pulled out her phonics workbook. Who wouldn’t cry when you’re taught that the “ough” sound in the word “though” is not the same sound in the word “thought”. Now continue doing this with many other words. It becomes very overwhelming for a child. I realized I needed to implement the basics: sight word lessons.

Why? Because it truly works, my friends!

Phonics are the foundation; an absolutely necessary one. And then you build on that with sight word work.

Sight word work is all about consistent exposure through repetition. This is how a child becomes a fluent and confident reader. It’s how my oldest two became good readers. The moment I implemented sight word work for my youngest, reading was no longer terrifying for her. Week by week, I saw actual progress and it increased her confidence.

Of course, the type of sight word work I was looking for wasn’t available. I would find like ONE decent worksheet here and there but there were no workbooks that provided a comprehensive approach to repetition. I was constantly having to create my own lessons on the fly day after day as we homeschooled. This was frustrating.

So I decided to create Sight Word Zone workbooks. I saw the missing elements and decided to do something about it. Every page in these workbooks is the exact method I used to teach my girls how to read fluently.

These workbooks are structured, comprehensive, and really focus on memory work through various activities, week after week after week. It’s consistent exposure that engages your child to read and write and it works!

Each week your child is introduced to 4 new words. These 4 new words are broken into daily lessons where they are exposed to 1 word a day by doing copy work, creating sentences, finding the word, reading the word, and tracing the word. By day 5, they review what they learned and do a spelling test. This repetitive method is done for 8 to 10 weeks depending on the workbook.
